Good Eye Podcast Ep53 Tom Leahy – Beacon Tree Foundation

Tom Leahy started the Beacon Tree Foundation as a result of his own family’s challenges presented by mental illness in the form of clinical depression. Beacon Tree’s mission is to be an advocate for families who have children struggling with mental illness by focusing on education, access to services, and the ability to pay for those services.

The 9th Annual Trees of Hope event is Beacon Tree Foundation’s annual children’s mental health awareness event, and the foundation’s major awareness event each year. This program of youth musical performances and reflections on the issue of mental illness, will be held virtually on Thursday, May 6th, 2021, 6:30 pm via FaceBook Live.

The program will feature local youth musicians and a variety of speakers, bringing together young people, professionals and parents of children struggling with mental illness. Designed to nurture support, marshal resources and provide fellowship, partner organizations and supporting members of the community are encouraged to attend.

Good Eye Podcast Ep51 Shannon Ross and Ramiah Whiteside – Anti-Mass Incarceration

Shannon Ross is the president of The Community, which he started as a personal development newsletter to provide information to the incarcerated community in 2014 while serving a seventeen year prison sentence in Wisconsin. He was released in September, when he began (the first day out) a graduate degree program at UW-Milwaukee for which he had been offered a scholarship. He is also a community fellow for a new partnership between UWM, Marquette, and the Milwaukee School of Engineering to facilitate collaboration among and access to all of the anti-mass incarceration efforts and resources in Wisconsin.

Ramiah Whiteside was also incarcerated for over 2 decades.  Now free, he has dedicated himself to raising awareness about the cause of anti-mass incarceration and promoting personal development and education among the incarcerated and the formerly incarcerated.

Joel Morgan’s “Dropping Keys” Podcast

Joel Morgan has been a guest on my Good Eye Podcast.  So when he asked me to join him for a conversation on his Dropping Keys podcast I jumped at the chance.  Joel is a life coach, an author, a pastor, and podcaster, and he, like many of us (ALL of us), has been through his share of challenges.

Joel makes sense for a living.  He might fight you on that because that’s the kind of guy he is.  But every conversation with Joel is thoughtful, insightful, honest and fun.

Thank you, all, for teaching me gratitude.

Some days you’re scared. Some, you’re motivated. Some happy. Some sad. And some days you’re met with feelings in yourself you can’t put into words. Today has found me confused, mournful, but unexpectedly inspired. Inspired to mindfully embrace life with responsibility. Inspired to practice gratitude for the breaths I get to take and the people I get to love and appreciate. Think of those you love who are no longer here. Reach out to those who are. Let them know they are loved. Be inspired for and by them. Difficult times seem to arrive empty handed, intent only on wrenching joy from your grasp. But they can come bearing opportunities for understanding and gratitude. They arrive with a heavy price, often unseen, even denied in the shadow of the monolithic opacity of grief. Rest In Peace, departed friends and loved ones. Go in Peace, those charged with mourning them. Thank you all for your inspiration.

Golden Retriever Puppy + Snow = Happy

Wanna take a break from stress and anxiety and an all-too-often sour news cycle?  I’ve got just the thing.  During a recent snowstorm I took our 6-month old Golden puppy, Frankie, to play in the snow.  She loved it.  Please excuse the portrait orientation of the video.  I had heavy gloves on and it was easier to manipulate the camera/phone that way.

Hey Tough Guy

From “Dragon Master” to your basic narrator, I’ve provided voiceover for lots of different kids of video games. Here’s one in which I play a tough-guy military type. Maybe not so tough-guy. But it was fun!
